Sailing against the wind has long been a challenge for seafarers. Moshman Research has taken on this challenge by designing a circular rotor that generates directional thrust from the air or water around it. This makes it possible to sail into the wind.

Using ANSYS Fluent CFD software, we were able to model and optimize the design, taking into account the complex physics of wake shedding.

To control the direction of thrust, we developed a control law that measures the flow direction and applies the appropriate action.

This technology not only has applications in sailing but also in other fields such as wind energy and water propulsion systems. With our expertise in simulation and control systems engineering, we are excited to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible in fluid dynamics.
